For unknown reasons, besides to my family, I ended up in Lubbock Texas. And one of the reasons I travelled up here was to stop at a brewery. Well I’m very happy that that was the case, as Two Docs Brewing Company was a great find!

Sitting just south of Hwy 82 off of 5th Street is Two Docs Brewing Company. Lubbock is very much a college town, so there’s a lot around, and nothing around all at the same time. The same could be said for their location. It’s a very non-descript, warehouse type building without any real signage outside. The huge, covered patio and food truck are the only things telling you there’s a business here. You have to walk through the patio to enter, and it’s a very nice, well kept area. I wish they had TV’s outside, especially since we’re in a college town, but oh well. As you enter, you immediately see the Two Docs Brewing sign above a large bar, and 5 huge brewing tanks to the right. I can’t express how much we love having the brewing equipment in the tap room, but this might be one of the best examples of that. I want to sit next to the tank my beer came out of! There’s a decent amount of tables and chairs in between the entry and bar. The to-go fridge is to the left, along with the merch area, and some fairly nice bathrooms. There are some TV’s around, but again I’d expect more. There’s no food options, but there appears to be a permanent food truck, however they don’t keep the same hours as the brewery. There’s not much decor, other than a few Tech things, but they rely on the brewery to be the design for the tap room, and I love it. It’s very relaxed inside, and they have a saying I love, Beer is Art!

They had a new release sour on tap, so I started with that. Blue Boy is a 5.5% ABV berry mix sour, with a focus on blueberry. Sours are brewed to have a tart or acidic flavor, but the best ones don’t make your mouth pucker from the sour flavor. You can definitely tell there’s multiple berries in this, and the blueberry is very noticeable. It’s not too sour, but it goes right up to that line. But it’s a very tasty and refreshing sour brew.

The hotter it gets, the more we all tend to lean into lighter beers. One of my go to light beers is the hefeweizen. So I had to try Little Snack, a 4.6% ABV hefeweizen. Hefs are a German style brew with a distinct taste of banana because of the yeast traditionally used. This is a killer hefeweizen, very light, refreshing, and the banana flavor is perfect. One of the best hefeweizen’s I’ve ever had.

Dark beers are my go-to no matter what the temperature is outside, and if you put your brewery’s name on a beer, I have to try it. Two Docs Bock is a 5.4% ABV bock beer. Bock’s are another traditional German brew with a medium body, and notes of caramel, toffee, and a hint of sweetness. This is the BEST Bock I’ve ever had! All the notes you expect are there, but the sweetness is more present than in normal bocks. It has an absolute fantastic flavor, and is super drinkable.

Despite my trip to BFE, sorry Tech fans, I ending up finding an absolutely fantastic brewery. Two Docs Brewing Company have a fantastic setup, great facility, and they brew some killer beers. Having the brewing equipment in the tap room is such an awesome move. The outside not having any real signage, and not having a full time food option are my big knocks. And just because they’re in a college town, a lack of TV’s to catch a game is disappointing. But overall I loved Two Docs, and they make the best Bock I’ve ever tried. We’re giving them a 9 🍺 rating! If you’re ever in West Texas, make sure to check them out. And I know there’s a big name, chain liquor store that carries their stuff in DFW. So go support them and try their brews for yourself, and Always Drink Local!
