Craft Brewery Rating System

We here at Craft Beer Snob are not going to do a review this weekend. Recently I was asked why I don’t do ratings or rankings for the breweries. I wanted to write a short piece on the reasons I’ve avoided it, and explaining our new process and how the ratings will work.

I will start by saying I will never do a ranking of breweries. I love craft beer and breweries, and my mission with this website is to promote them, not pit them against each other. This was also my reasoning for not doing a rating system, I didn’t want people choosing one place over another. I want people to visit as many breweries as possible, not only to experience each one, because they are all different and great, but because they are all local businesses. Supporting local businesses is incredibly important for many reasons, the most important being these people put their hearts and souls into starting a business and brewing beer they hope you will love. We should want to help as many of them as possible.

The other reason is their beer is so so so much better than anything the big generic guys put out. Even if you don’t like the crazy stuff or the many different types of beer out there like I do, you should try craft beer. Go do a comparison between a lager or a light lager from a local brewery and anything you can get from the grocery store, it will blow you away. Instead of picking up a 12 pack at the store to drink while watching the game, grab a 12 pack from your favorite brewery. It helps them out and you get to drink a good quality beer.

So I have decided to implement a rating system from now on, and I will go back and rate the previous 10 breweries we have already visited. It’s going to be a star system from 1-10, except were using 🍺 instead of ⭐. Everything will be factored in from the decor and building appearance outside, the decor and aesthetic inside, parking, location, service, bathrooms, whether or not food is available, and most importantly the craft beer. And I’m only factoring in the craft beer we sample on that visit, as it’s highly likely I’ve had previous brews from them. I’m going to be very picky about the ratings, and it’s going to be incredibly hard to get a 10. I’ll also do my best to explain the ratings in each post. But just because a brewery gets a 5 doesn’t mean you shouldn’t visit. There’s only one brewery I’ve ever been to that I will not go back. And just because I find one just okay doesn’t mean you will have the same opinion. My goal in writing these reviews is to promote these local businesses and get word out about them. Visit as many as you can, help them out, get good quality beer. It’s a win win really. And that’s why I always say Always Drink Local!

So here are my previous breweries ratings:

MartinHouse Brewing – 8 🍺

White Rock Brewing – 7 🍺

Wild Acre Beer Garden – 1 🍺

Texas Ale Project – 6 🍺

Balanced Rock Brewing – 10 🍺

Turning Point Brewery – 8 🍺

3 Nations Brewing – 9 🍺

Lakewood Brewing – 7 🍺

Denton County Brewing – 8 🍺

Tupps Brewing – 8 🍺
